EASIER has been equipping Medellín’s metro stations for more than 25 years.

In 1980, the Medellín Metro construction project was presented to the Colombian national government. The subway was conceived as a massive urban transport system for the city’s working classes. Moving thousands of passengers every day in an efficient and safe way is the great challenge of mass transportation in Colombia. Therefore, a high quality automated fare collection system able to handle peak hour entries and exits of more than 30-40 people per minute, was needed.

In partnership with Incomelec, EASIER has been accompanying the Medellín Metro since 1995, providing access control solutions for passengers in public transportation systems. More than 475 turnstiles have been installed on the A and B lines of the metro between 1995 and 2015.

In 2012, the Medellín metro system was named one of the best transportation systems in the world by the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), a global consortium of organizations founded to promote sustainable transportation worldwide.

To accompany the modernization of Medellín’s metro stations and the “Tranvía TA” tram line in 2016, EASIER developed and manufactured  approximately 100 bi-directional fare gates, improving the flow of passengers while guaranteeing optimal security and giving an avant-garde look to the innovative stations. Medellín’s metro system currently transports more than 160 million passengers per year, new lines are planned to be constructed in the upcoming years.
